MORE than 60 per cent of small businesses feel the Government fails to deliver the right level of support during their start-up and initial trading periods.

A survey by Unicom found that less than 16 per cent of small firms believe the Government is providing them with enough support to start up their ventures and become established.

Unicom operations director Chris Earle said: "I think what is particularly significant is that a further 24 per cent said they had given up caring and were battling on regardless.

"In effect, that is an 85 per cent vote of no confidence in the Government's commitment and ability to support small business in Britain.

"Clearly, small business feels that it is perhaps falling into the shadows of bigger business - in more ways than one."
