AN air base in the region has become the first RAF station to win a business award.

RAF Linton-on-Ouse, near York, has gained the British Quality Foundation's Investor in Excellence award.

The station's business model will now be used to set the standard for the rest of the service.

The British Quality Foundation is Europe's largest corporate membership organisation. It sponsors the Investor in Excellence programme, which is designed to drive continuous improvement in all key areas of an organisation.

Linton's award is based on business performance and projections from September this year to August 2008.

Flight Lieutenant Simon Brown, who heads Linton's business development team, said: "The achievement of this award shows we are living up to the principles we believe in.

"Linton prides itself on excellence in the training of pilots and I think this accolade shows we can hold company with some of the country's leading brands."

The British Quality Foundation has already accredited some of the major players in the business world including BMW, O2 UK, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB.
