ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (BOWES INTERCHANGE TO ROKEBY PARK JUNCTION) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in County Durham, to enable carriageway retexturing and resurfacing works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start at 8pm on Sunday 21 January 2018 for 2 weeks, or until comp eted.
The effect of the Order will be to impose, between 7pm and 7am, at times during the works a temporary:
(i) 10mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 235 metres west of Rokeby Park Junction eastwards for a distance of 835 metres. The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle; and
(ii) 40mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways from 235 metres west of Rokeby Park Junction to1835 metres west of Rokeby Park Junction, a distance of 1600 metres.
It will be necessary, between 7pm and 7am, at times during the works to:
(iii) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 9'6" in specified lanes of the A66 eastbound carriageway as described above in (i); and
(iv) close the gap in the central reservation adjacent to Rokeby Park Junction.
During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available. It will also be necessary to close for 24 hours a day for the duration of the works, the layby adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 1030 metres west of the exit slip road at Bowes Interchange. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency services vehicles, traffic officer vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance purposes). The Order comes into force on 20 January 2018 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
