ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14
THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (HARGILL TO SMALLWAYS) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the District of Richmondshire, to enable bridge repair works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Wednesday 15 March 2017 for 1 night, or until completed, and will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am.
The effect of the Order will be at times during the works, to:
(i) close the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways from 16 metres east of Lanehead Lane Junction to 21 metres west of the B6274 Winston Crossroads, a distance of 7083 metres;
(ii) impose a temporary 40mph, and 20mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from 21 metres west of Winston Crossroads to 733 metres east of Winston Crossroads, a distance of 754 metres;
(iii) impose a temporary 40mph and 20mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 748 metres west of Lanehead Lane Junction to 16 metres east of Lanehead Lane Junction, a distance of 764 metres
(iv) close the gaps in the central reserve
1259 metres west of Winston Crossroads and 1203 metres east of Lanehead Lane Junction.
During the carriageway closures suitably signed
alternative routes will be available.
It will also be necessary to close, for 24 hours
a day, for the duration of the works, the laybys
adjacent to the, A66:
(i) eastbound carriageway approximately 2126 metres west of Lanehead Lane Junction, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area;
(ii) eastbound carriageway approximately 2706 metres east of Lanehead Lane Junction;
(ii) westbound carriageway approximately 2680 metres west of Winston Crossroads; and
(iii) westbound carriageway approximately 3944 metres east of Winston Crossroads, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area.
Traffic management will be in place 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A66. The Order comes into force on 14th March 2017 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
