WHERNSIDE COMMON
The owners of Whernside Great Allotment are applying to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Whernside Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State. The proposal is an extension to the existing permission for temporary fencing that was agreed in 2010 under COM148. There is 650m of fencing on an area of the common known as “The Brows”. The fencing is used to manage biodiversity and grazing on the common, under a Stewardship Scheme with Natural England. A copy of the application form and accompanying documents may be obtained until 22nd May 2020, by writing to T Watson, Murkey Hill Farm, Middleton Tyas, North Yorkshire, DL10 6RW.
