Five County Durham drivers have been fined in court after failing to provide police with information relating to an incident or speeding. 

All five drivers appeared in Peterlee Magistrates Court, where they were fined a collective £5000.

Five County Durham drivers fined £5000 in court this week:

Jonathan Brown, 50, of East Tanfield House in Stanley, Durham, pleaded guilty to speeding on a motorway in Durham on July 10, 2024.

He exceeded the 70 mph limit, while driving a Land Rover. He was fined £666, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £266, and ordered to pay costs of £90. His driving record was endorsed with five points.

Giani Costel Chindinov, 25, of Wellfield Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, was found guilty of failing to give information to police in Durham on January 18, 2024.

The vehicle related to the query was a Mercedes.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, and ordered to pay costs of £90. His driving record was endorsed with six points.

Stuart Thomas Jennings, 61 of Little Burn Way in Pelton Fell, Durham, also failed to give information relating to the identification of a driver to police in Durham on August 28, 2023. The vehicle in question was a Peugeot.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, and ordered to pay £110 costs. He was also disqualified from driving for six months.

Royce Mallett, 30, of Pesspool Avenue, Haswell, Durham, did not provide the necessary identification of a driver to the Durham police on November 23, 2023.

The vehicle in question was an Iveco truck.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, and ordered to pay costs of £90. His driving record was endorsed with six points.

Thomas Helme, 48, of Paddock View, Graffham, Petworth, West Sussex, failed to reveal driver information to the police in Durham on September 21, 2023.

The vehicle involved was a Volvo.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, and ordered to pay costs of £90. His driving record was endorsed with six points.
