A VILLAGE cricket club is to host a second tournament to raise money for a blind team.

Last year Durham Visually Impaired Cricket Club received more than £700 from an event at Tantobie Cricket Club, near Stanley .

It entailed Tantobie, Beamish and East Rainton cricket clubs playing Durham to "blind rules’’ , which feature the use of a small football filled with ball bearings.

The tournament is set to be staged again at Tantobie’s ground, next to the village community centre, in South View, on Sunday August 19 between 1.30 and 6pm.

Durham Visually Impaired Cricket Club spokesman Carl "Macar" McGee, who lives in nearby Dipton and is totally blind, said this year the opposition would be only from Tantobie.

The sighted players will be playing with sunglasses to restrict their vision.

Proceeds will go towards the cost of travel and coaching - Durham are bnow playing in a national league .

"It should be a great day. The lads at tantobnie are all my mates and I’m really looking fiorward to bowling them out!.

"We want as many people to come down as possible and hopefully we will have nice weather for it.

"There will be a buffet and a variety of refreshments available and also a raffle and domino card, tombola ,stalls and an auction. "Donations are welcome no matter how big or small. "If you want to contribute in any way at all then i would only be to happy to here from you."
