A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after they had become trapped under a car following a serious crash.

The A6108 was closed in both directions yesterday (May 11) as emergency services worked at the scene.

Fire crews from Ripon and Bedale attended the incident at about 12.30pm and helped ambulance crews release the motorcyclist who had been trapped.

The rider was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A police investigation is believed to be ongoing.

A North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesperson said: "Crews from Ripon and Bedale responded to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and motorcycle.

"Crews assisted ambulance crews in releasing the motorcycle rider who had become trapped.

"The casualty was transported to hospital via air ambulance.

"The incident was left in the hands of the police to carry out an investigation."

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson previously said: "We’re currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on the A6108 between West Tanfield and North Stainley.

"The road is currently closed and is expected to be for some time.

"Motorists should find an alternative route."

The road has reopened following the crash.
