Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a fire at a derelict social club.

Cleveland Police confirmed that two boys, aged 16 and 14, were taken into custody yesterday.

Nobody was injured during the fire but the road was blocked off for hours and eight fire appliances were deployed to deal with the fire.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a large fire in Hartlepool. 

"The fire at the former Engineer’s Social Club on Raby Road in the town, which happened at around 7:30pm on Tuesday 30th April, resulted in road closures in the area due to the thick smoke in the air.

"The boys, age 16 and 14 were taken to custody yesterday and released on bail whilst enquiries continue."

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson previously said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on 30/04/2024 at 19.26 to an incident at the former Engineers Social Club on Raby Road in Hartlepool.

"Eight fire engines were in attendance from Hartlepool, Thornaby, Yarm, Stockton, and Middlesbrough. The combined aerial rescue pump (CARP) was also in attendance.

"The incident has scaled down to one fire engine which is currently in attendance to dampen down the area.

"Investigations will take place to determine the cause once the incident has fully concluded.”
