The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued an update on its investigation into the death of a Darlington man in an industrial accident. 

Emergency services were called to Macadams car recovery garage on Boroughbridge Road in Ripon on Friday (March 29, 2024) at about 8am, following reports of an incident at the site.

Ambulance, air ambulance, fire and police teams were in attendance on the day - with police confirming that the man, who was in his 30s and from Darlington, died at the scene.

At the time, a spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "We responded to a fatal industrial accident at a vehicle recovery garage on Boroughbridge Road in Ripon on Friday (29 March 2024).

"It happened at around 8am and resulted in the death of a man aged in his 30s from the Darlington area.

"He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by the police. 

"Ambulance, air ambulance, fire and police teams were in attendance.

"We are assisting the accident investigation led by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)."

Since the fatal industrial accident, HSE and the police have been undertaking an investigation.

On Friday (May 10), the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed that it was leading the investigation into the industrial accident and would be testing the car involved in the incident.

A HSE spokesperson said: "We are now leading the investigation into the death of a man at a premises in Ripon on March 29 2024. As part of that process, the vehicle involved will now be examined and tested.”
