8:10am Saturday 10th November 2007 in Veterans' Stories
THE experiences of a Second World War Spitfire pilot will be recounted online today.
Gordon Rider is taking part in Veterans' Stories - an online project for Remembrance Day by The Northern Echo.
Dr Rider, 82, from Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire, served with the Fleet Air Arm.
He was posted to the Pacific and based on aircraft carriers.
In his video account, Dr Rider remembers coming under attack from Japanese kamikaze pilots and the danger of landing on a deck no wider than a rugby pitch.
Tomorrow, a video account by a former Green Howard and SAS soldier will be posted online. George "Ben" Gunn, 78, from Guisborough, North Yorkshire, served for 30 years.
To watch Mr Rider and Mr Gunn recount their experiences, visit www.thenorthern echo.co.uk. Remembrance Day tributes can be left on the site for servicemen and women killed in action.
