BLAYDON will be hoping that Darlington Mowden Park's Family Fun Day does not promote a cavalier attitude on the pitch today.

The Tynesiders need to win their final game at Old Albanians to have a chance of leapfrogging Mowden's visitors, Hull Ionians, in the National One relegation battle.

Blaydon will be saying farewell to two stalwarts in Andrew Baggett and Jason Smithson.

After his record 408 National One appearances Baggett is to rejoin Middlesbrough as player-coach, while back row man Smithson is to hang up his boots following his 221st appearance for Blaydon.

Mowden, whose fun day starts at 1pm, are determined to put on a show for the fans on and off the pitch and will have the exciting Adam Radwan back on the wing.

Two changes up front see Durham University's Adam Brocklebank replace Ignas Darkintis at tight head, while Talite Vaioleti returns to the starting line-up in place of Dan Preston-Routledge.

Westoe's bid to return to North One East has been boosted by home advantage in the promotion play-off against Yorkshire One runners-up West Leeds.

With Wood Terrace required for cricket, the match will be played on the artificial pitch at Harton College.

West Leeds are an up-and-coming side who won Yorkshire Two last season and the RFU Senior Vase. They are going back to Twickenham next week for the Intermediate Cup final.

After finishing fifth in National Three North, Billingham's most successful season will be capped with the official opening of their artificial pitch at the Durham County Sevens.

Work began in March, and is on target for the June 24 event, which has again been selected as one of the England 24/7s play-offs, with the winners progressing to the regional qualifier. The national finals are at Twickenham on July 29.

Billingham's Director of Rugby Chris Hyndman said: “The RFU’s recognition of this leading event in the North East calendar is a real testament to the club’s hard work.”

Entries are now open and teams should email: secretary@billinghamrugby.co.uk for details. There is a small registration fee, and prize money for winning teams.
