Newcastle forward signs new contract
NEWCASTLE Falcons forward Geoff Parling has become the latest player to commit himself to the club by signing a new one-year deal at Kingston Park.
The 24-year-old has featured at both flanker and lock for Newcastle this season, scoring three tries in 20 starts and three bench appearances.
Falcons director of rugby John Fletcher said: "Geoff is very much what we stand for at Newcastle, a talented local lad who has come through the Academy system and really established himself as a Guinness Premiership player.
"He is a very consistent performer who contributes a lot to the team, has a big influence on the line-out and is continuing to mature as a player with every season.
"Our pack has been much improved of late under the guidance of Peter Walton, and Geoff has been an integral part of that success so naturally we are delighted to have agreed an extra year."
Stockton-born Parling came through the Falcons Academy after having attended Ian Ramsey School in Stockton. He also studied at Durham School before completing a degree at Newcastle University.
Named Falcons Players' Player of the Year for the 2005-06 season, he has represented England at every age group as well as making 91 first-team appearances for the Falcons.
Parling said: "The Falcons pack has really progressed this season and, while we still know there is plenty of work to do, everyone at the club is really committed to driving things forward.
"It's obviously good news to have got the new contract sorted, and I'm looking forward to being part of the continued progression at the club."
