NEWCASTLE FALCONS have confirmed Alex Rogers' promotion to the senior squad, following last season's impressive performances while he was dual registered with Blaydon.

The 28-year-old moved to the National League One side from French club Lille last season after registering to study at Northumbria University, and was invited to train with Falcons.

Featuring 19 times across the season, five of which were starts, Rogers acquitted himself well in a pack that performed impressively, and has earned a full-time Falcons contract of the back of those displays.

Director of rugby Dean Richards said: “With Alex studying at university and playing locally last season, it gave us a chance to keep an eye on and try out a player I knew from Harlequins, and I thought he did well for us when he played. Coming into the side on a full-time basis, he will play a key part of our plans for the season ahead.”
