RICHARD Mayhew has signed a two-year contract extension to commit his long-trem future to Newcastle Falcons.

The 28-year-old back rower, who has made 50 Falcons appearances since his arrival in 2011, follows Gonzalo Tiesi, Matt Thompson, Scott MacLeod and Sinoti Sinoti in signing on the dotted line at Kingston Park.

"I’ve really enjoyed my time in the North East since joining the club a few years ago, and there is a great set-up here at Kingston Park," said New-Zealand born Mayhew, who is also qualified with England.

"We have a good core of players at the moment with a mixture of both youth and experience, and I’m delighted to have committed my future to the club."

Director of rugby, Dean Richards, added: “Richard is one of the ultimate professionals in the game, and has been in impressive form this season.

"He has excellent leadership skills too, both on and off the pitch which is invaluable at this level, and he is another excellent re-signing for the club as we continue to build for the future."
