TWO Newcastle Falcons Academy products who have also played for Darlington Mowden Park have been named in the England Sevens squad.

Mike Ellery has been a regular for the last two years and has now been joined by Alex Gray, who will make his first appearance in the HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai on November 29-30.

Born in Bishop Auckland, 22-year-old Gray was educated at Barnard Castle School and led England U16, U18 and U20 to Grand Slams. He signed his first professional contract for Newcastle Falcons at the age of 17 and appeared in eight Premiership matches before joining London Irish.

He captained an England U20 side which featured Owen Farrell, Joe Launchbury and Mako Vunipola to the runners-up spot in the 2011 IRB Junior Championship, when they lost 33-25 to New Zealand in the final.

In Dubai, England will face Canada, the USA and Fiji in Pool C on the opening day at a venue where they captured back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011.

Also in Dubai next week for the opening round of the women’s series will be Megan Ellery, Mike’s sister, who will make her Sevens World Series debut.

She will be joined by fellow Darlington Mowden Sharks player Fiona Davison for the pool B matches, in which England will face Tunisia, Spain and Russia.
