THREE Newcastle Falcons players have been named in the Scotland squad for the Six Nations Championship.

Scott Lawson, Jon Welsh and Chris Harris have all been selected for Scotland’s campaign, which begins with an away game in Wales on Saturday, February 3.

Hooker Lawson won the last of his 46 Scotland caps in November 2014, but the 36-year-old has made 102 competitive appearances during his four-and-a-half seasons with Falcons and has been rewarded for his consistently strong form.

Prop forward Welsh is also named in head coach Gregor Townsend’s 40-man group, the Glaswegian having trained with Scotland during the autumn Tests as he looks to add to his tally of 11 caps, the last of which came during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Centre Harris is the third Falcons player named in Scotland’s squad, having made his Test debut against Samoa in November.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: “It's great that more of our players are beginning to be recognised at international level for the consistently strong performances they have been showing for us over a long period of time.

“For Scott in particular it is fantastic to know he is very much on the radar a few years since his last involvement, but I’m delighted for all three boys and I hope they go on to feature for Scotland during the Six Nations games when they come round.”
