COUNTY DURHAM full-back Mathew Tait has agreed a new contract with Aviva Premiership side Leicester Tigers.

Tait, who is from Wolsingham, began his career with Newcastle Falcons and also played for Sale Sharks before moving to Leicester in 2011.

An England international who appeared in the 2007 Rugby World Cup final, Tait made 28 senior appearances for Leicester last season and ended the campaign with an appearance in the England XV that beat the Barbarians at Twickenham last weekend.

Leicester director of rugby, Richard Cockerill, said: “Mat has enjoyed one of the most consistent seasons of his career and we’re delighted that he has agreed terms on a new contract here.”
