Northallerton couldn’t overcome a two goal deficit at Thornaby today and missed out on promotion to the ENL First Division.

Northallerton gave themselves too much to do after Thornaby went into a two goal lead through a Danny Chapman penalty and Joe Scaife-Wheatley. Chapman was then sent off and Richie Walker pulled a goal back before half time. Matty Crossen equalised early in the second half, but Northallerton couldn’t find a winner, although Chris Dickinson hit the bar late on.

Northallerton’s failure to win means that Hebburn and Whickham are promoted with Blyth AFC.

Hebburn beat Chester-le-Street 2-0 on South Tyneside. Meech Kanda put them in front a minute before half time from close range, and then Paul Chow fired the second on the hour.

Whickham beat Heaton Stannington to climb from fourth to third. Steve Aiston fired Whickham in front on 28 minutes, then after Heaton hit the bar, Kyle Wharton made it 2-0.

In the first division, champions Marske drew their local derby 1-1 at Guisborough , while North Shields ran in eight against Seaham Red Star.
