Marske United gave their title chances a boost when they beat league leaders Morpeth 4-1 at Mount Pleasant last night.
Marske are now 18 points behind Morpeth with ten games in hand.
Marske took the lead after 13 minutes when a cross by Reece Kelly caused chaos inside the Morpeth box, and Danny Earl forced the ball home.
Morpeth missed three good chances to equalise, but it was 2-0 on 36 minutes when Marske broke on the counter attack, and Curtis Round beat the Morpeth keeper.
It was 3-0 a few minutes after half time, when Kelly was brought down, and Craig Gott scored from the spot.
Morpeth pulled a goal back on 75 minutes through Stephen Elliott, but Gary Wood fired in the fourth from 30 yards, which was Marske’s 100th of the season and 1500th in the Northern League.
