JEMMA LOWE was in recordbreaking
form again at the weekend,
smashing the 200m butterfly
mark at the Middlesbrough
Open.
The Borough of Stockton
swimmer set a new mark of
2.04.01. Stockton team-mate, Jessica
Dickons had set the previous
record of 2.05.09 when winning
bronze at the World Short Course
Championship's in Manchester
last month.
Jemma's new mark ranks as
the third on the all-time list and
just 0.5 seconds short of the European
record set in December
last year by Poland's Olympic
Gold medallist, Otylia Jedrzejczak.

Coach Phil Taylor said
"Jemma is just in fantastic form
right now and producing performances
that are an inspiration
not only to us at Stockton but
everyone involved in swimming
locally.
"It's so pleasing that her latest
British Record swim was done
before a local group of enthusiastic
swimmers and officials here
on Teesside at the Neptune Centre
in Middlesbrough.
"Just before she swam I said to
another coach that this is the
closest that we will get to the
Olympics hoping for a performance
worthy of an Olympic
Games. It was moving that everyone
present lined the pool and
gave a standing ovation for a fantastic
performance.
"For Jemma it is another step
in continued progress towards
competing in Beijing and hopefully
a crack at breaking the
world record. She produced a
swim worthy of an Olympic
medal never mind an Olympic
final and we're hoping that she
can achieve that in Beijing."
