Toro Rosso up for sale
ITALIAN-based Formula One team Toro Rosso have been put up for sale, joint owner Dietrich Mateschitz has confirmed.
Mateschitz and fellow shareholder Gerhard Berger are thought to want to find a new buyer by the end of next season.
Mateschitz, the man behind the Red Bull F1 team, has claimed he cannot continue operating the junior team from when the use of customer engines will be outlawed from the start of 2010 under the new Concord Agreement.
The Austrian, whose junior team currently use Ferrari customer engines, told Motorsport Aktuell: "It is not a big secret that we have put Toro Rosso on the market.
"For the start of 2010 there will be a rule change and there will be no more synergy regarding design and construction of cars between Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso.
"There I see the necessity that we continue with one team only. We will not sell Toro Rosso during the 2008 season, but it will be before 2010.
"We will only sell the team if it is put into safe hands."
The Toro Rosso team came into existence in 2006 after Paul Stoddart sold his Minardi outfit to Mateschitz.
