Lewis - a perfect start
16.3: HISTORY is with Lewis Hamilton. Traditionally, the driver who wins the opening Grand Prix of the season goes on to lift the title.
But I don't think the Brit will have an easier race in his entire career.
Ferrari only have themselves to blame for failing to give McLaren a fight.
What can of arrogance was going on in the pit lane holding Kimi back so long in qualifying?
And during the race both drivers made school-boy mistakes that left them in the dust.
Expect a Ferrari fight-back starting at the very next race.
Away from the front of the grid it was good to see Honda and Toyota finally making serious progress.
I must admit the pace of the Honda surprised me. A new aero package seems to have found the team a precious second per lap. It now looks as though Jenson and Rubens will be knocking on the door of top ten qualification rather than rubbing shoulders with Super Aguri.
Torro Rosso also looks capable of springing a surprise - I really felt for Bourdais as his engine expired a couple of laps from the finish but his time will come.
But the best sight of all was Nico Rosberg and the Williams team's reaction to a terrific third place.
Rosberg hasn't shared a podium with Lewis Hamilton since they were back racing karts eight years ago.
And Williams haven't won a race since the BMW era.
It's terrific to see this most British of teams coming up with a car/driver package that can run at the front once again.
Here's to Rosberg notching up at least one GP win in 2008 - and a first title for Lewis Hamilton.
