Richmond Motor Club, Sid Morten Memorial Trial, Fremington Edge

GUY KENDREW really stormed the rugged slopes of Fremington Edge on Good Friday to win the Sid Morton Memorial Trophy by a country mile from James Stones and Dan Thorpe, Even S3 Parts championship leader Richard Sadler was dispatched by the rampant Ingleby Arncliffe specialist woodworker.

Hard to believe but Richard went down to the tune of twenty eight marks, courtesy of his friend, riding mate, and Acklam Beta team member.

On the hard route the class winners were Skeeby heavy goods driver Will Reynolds and Mintex Youth Trial winner Duncan MacColl.

The latter all the way from South Lanarkshire who was also the top novice in his class.

Reynolds was back in action of a serious finger injury at the Cogden Hall trial on February 14.

Fresh from his Ilkley Grand National ride Ryan Brown topped the youth class.

Ryan was rewarded for his efforts by winning the Betty Morten Trophy. Richard Fraser took the Green course class from Gary Pears who worked wonders with his nine year old Scorpa.

In terms of age the twelve year Montesa 4RT ridden by Clubman winner Andy Kearton was young enough to beat Paul Sadler and Richmond Motor Club President Paul Terry.

Tim Weatherill took the Class B youth from Richard Pulman and Andrew Reynolds. Andrew was running in a new Beta and also mindful of forthcoming skiing holiday with Josh Brown so took no risks on the twelve observed sections.

Simon Williamson took the Over 40's class on what was a testing three laps of very slippery rocky sections.

Scarborough & D.M.C. Club championship trial, Low North Park, Saturday

A WET dismal day for riders and observers on Easter Saturday as Scarborough DMC kicked off their popular 2018 Club Championship series at their Low North park practice ground, Harwood Dale and brother and sister act Mike Noble and Nicola Dixon grabbed a well earned twelve and ten points respectively for a win and a second place.

Motor engineer Noble from Whitby stepped up to Intermediate class after posting such good results over the last season in clubman A and just shaded the win by one mark from Richmond visitor Joe Anderson, with Tom Pickard a further point behind in third.

Noble almost let the win slip away on the very first section where Tracey Allison observed, losing double figures to Anderson`s steady four, but Pickard shone here with best ride of the day on two.

Anderson`s moment of glory came at the fourth, the only rider to remain clean every visit. Great ride.

Helmsley`s Richard Hildrick claimed top honours in Clubman A, and again fought back from a disastrous first section score to remain clean on the next two to win by six from Lee Darrell and Sam Fairbank.

Mark Butler, clubman B winner, back on the Twin shock Fantic of his youth, put together a solid ride, only the eighth hazard taking three marks from him.Not to be completely outdone by big brother Mike, Nicola (nee Noble) Dixon grabbed runner up berth on the white route as Paul Harrison aboard the 250 Honda took the win, while all youth riders deserved a medal as big as a dustbin lid for just gaining a finish on a day like this, but credit to winners of their class Richard Pulman, Harry Blackwell, Mason Vasey, Rhyley Dewing and Bobbie Pulman.

THE weather continues to wreck the regional trials calendar. The Richmond and Bradford clubs ran on schedule at Fremington Edge and Lumb Waterfall.

Early on Sunday morning the axe fell on the annual Jack Leslie Ellis Memorial trial which also happened to be a Yorkshire Championship event.

River and stream levels were hazardous and the parc ferme was almost a lake.

The Pickering club's motocross at Wrelton on Sunday went with no parking facilities for competitors or spectators again due to waterlogged acres. The Richmond joined the list and cancelled their trial at Ironbanks on Easter Monday for the same reason
