Darlington & D.M.C. Dave Gatenby Trial, Dalton Woods, Croft, Sunday

Darlington ran the Dave Gatenby Trophy Trial at Dalton Woods on Sunday where forty two competitors enjoyed a low scoring four lap ten section course at the Croft venue.

After a week of rain the sun made an appearance and conditions eased to allow class winners Mark Willis and Gary Daikin to get round on a single penalty. For Willis it was a repeat victory.

Veterans also put in appearance. Tony Calvert got his Montesa home to take second place on the novice ranks while Masham Sausage supremo Paul Dennis was under serious threat from Leslie Richardson and top Class A youth Tom Needham was also taking scalps with a fine fourth place in the clubman ranks. Schoolboy Liam Clement was the top youth on the novice course while the questionable honour of the oldest rider could be Neil Metcalfe who got his Montesa home in fourth place but then Neil has been there and done that over the years.

Richmond Motor Club, Applegarth Trial, Marske, Sunday

The Richmond club hit the jackpot fair and square on Sunday at Applegarth where the trial that carries that name ran under an almost cloudless sky with sunshine beaming down on sixty starters of all ages and sizes. The ten observers on the main course were digging out the sun blocker. .. No chance though of that for Andrew Reynolds and Tim Weatherill in Class B youth. The boys cleaned all ten sections on all four laps and shared the class ahead of third placed Ben Hodgson. Callum Fowler took Class C ahead of Monte Andrew who incurred a couple of fives, not usual at all, while his father Darren also joined the 'cleaners' .Mr Fowler to plant a nice round Zero on the results sheet..place. Steven Ainsley took the class ahead of Simon Williamson after Steve Lambert 'parked' the Fantic in section three on lap three. .The eleven small wheels rode a separate nine section three lap course overlooking the Clapgate cliffs. Nothing over the top for any of the four classes and just to emphasise the point Charlie Astwood added a fourth clean to the proceedings. Rory Wilkinson as usual rode well on the twist and go Sherco but its engine died at section one on lap one maybe because it was cold.

Wetherby D.M.C. 4th Norman Crooks Trophy Trial series, Cockhill Mines, Greenhow, Saturday

The fourth Crooks Trophy trial got the full treatment on Saturday evening at Cockhill Mimes. Wall to wall sunshine, a cooling breeze and fifty nine contenders who rode a four lap ten section course utilising all the Cockhill favourites. The Clerk of Course excelled. Al three classes ended with single figure scores at the sharp end. Only in the full youth easy course did Adam Brown stray into double figures. The Club followed the almost essential format with six sections in the east ravine where the stream bed was a little on the green side on the first lap. Amazingly Glasshouses electrician Danny Gamble threw his TYZ Yamaha at the rocks in his usual style cleaning the all but the fifth on lap two when he dropped a boot. . in the final section on one. That untidy three let Mr Gamble of the hook only to be replaced by Mr Sadler. Jack Harker was hovering on fifteen which he secured third place with that score while heating engineer Andy Tales felt the heat from Bellerby teenager Ryan Brown who his class and took fourth place overall. Neil Gaunt contained the 'Terrible Twins' in Clubman A where Phillip Hammond allowed Robert Hardisty to take second place. ..

The series heads for Clockensyke Farm at Dacre on July 29 where battle will commence at 5.30 pm.
