THE G E Brown Trophy Trial was another success story, for winner Jonathan Richardson, for the Richmond Motor Club and the organisers whose hard work paid off when 117 competitors enjoyed the majestic scenery of Swaledale last Sunday.

Andrew Brown and his team laid on a spectacular two-lap, 20-section course which featured eight subs up the narrow ravine at Low Houses then the climb up to Underbridge, where the big step out of the second section plundered hard course marks.

The writing was on the wall after the first lap. Richardson posted a 10, with Guy Kendrew right on him until he failed Underbridge three. Barry Watson said Phil Alderson made the second section in the group look easy. He repeated his almost slow motion ride right round the edge of the double turning step. Only Richardson, Kendrew, James Stones and Alderson cleaned on both laps.

Top inter Will Reynolds footed the BW Associates-sponsored 4RT round the turn on lap one and then fired up the Montesa on lap two.

The action started at the bottom of Low House, where Vicky Andrew spotted any blind side dabs or leaning on the tree at the top, where the buried tree root appeared after half a dozen spinning wheels disturbed it. The stream was on holiday, so it was a dry, rocky eight sections of muscle-sapping riding. Richardson laid down a benchmark two dabs in the third and fourth.

The majority of clubman A runners cleaned the opener, but the third section stopped winner Nigel Crowther and his rivals Trevor Willans and Andrew Jackson. The latter produced a five score for the group, which was one under Crowther, but two fives in Summer Lodge killed the hopes of the Falcon rider.

Top youth Charlie Smith turned in a great top eight overall result to beat on-form Ryan Brown.

Paul Sadler won clubman B by two marks from Neil Gaunt, with Phil Hammond third.

The reason for the large entry, apart from riding a classy trial, was the Yorkshire Centre Championship points up for grabs.

THE seventh and final Wetherby and District MC Crooks Trophy Trial took place last Saturday at Fellbeck, where the Shepherd family laid on a trials course, a barbecue and liquid refreshments for 52 competitors.

The final chance to score points was a 10-section, four-lap trials course on the south side of Nidderdale. Joel Sadler won the hard course and Danny Gamble rode a TYZ Yamaha to third place behind Dave Mawer. Ryan Brown was the top and only youth in that class.

Rob Hardisty just held off Wetherby regulars Rob Bratley and Ian Myers in clubman A, while Buxton youngster Harry Turner won the youth class despite losing half his tally on the holly tree section.

Clive Armistead hung in for clubman B, with Ian Brogden, Michael Benson and Steve Gossop and his pristine BSA Bantam in close attendance. Bradley Green topped the youth class.

EBORACUM MC held the penultimate round of their club championship at Rosedale last Saturday.

Pocklington's Olly Kendra took the expert win and will retain the club expert championship.

The four-lap, 10-section course set around the excellent moorland venue caused no real problems for Kendra, apart from the awkward rocks of the eighth hazard which grabbed all his marks.

Best inter Jonathon Frost, returning to something like his old form, found the third and fourth a problem, losing double figure scores here.

Matt Sharp, clubman A champion last season, is looking to retain his title, but a solid ride from the stylish Jack Doble, from Guisborough, pushed him all the way.

The over-50s class B had a clear winner. Paul Nelson's hard nights of practice are paying off, romping home a clear winner on just seven points lost from Scarborough's Steve Temple.

A DISTINCT lack of experts for Thirsk and District MC's Low Kilburn Grange trial last Sunday allowed Jonathon Frost, from York, to grab his second win of the weekend.

Held among the old quarry workings and streams around trials enthusiast and rider John Banks' land, the four-lap, 10-section course always produces an excellent event.

Frost proved up for it from the off and only the difficult rocks of sections four and five caused him any problems. Paul Turner dropped off the pace with four lost on the very last section, while Great Edstone's John Benton had another retirement.

A strong clubman B entry saw Mark Jewell and Darren Johnson topping the results. Simon Smith and Paul Nelson finished off a successful weekend by taking third and fourth places.

Harry Turner had a great ride on the green route, bettering the clubman A class winner by four marks with a loss of just 30 marks, and Elliot Laws took a clear win on the yellow route from Richard Pulman.
