STEPHEN Lambert took a day off from farming and marking trials courses to give his elderly TYZ Yamaha a run out in the Darlington and District Motor Club’s trial at Brokes, Richmond, last Sunday.

The Japanese two-stroke ran like the proverbial clock and he won the clubman class with ease.

Barry Watson had switched from Montesa-tuning for Will Reynolds and managed to turn the clock back 30 years or more to get the machine running as it was when it left the Yamaha factory.

A field of 61 competitors rode the three-route course.

SHERCO rider Tom Affleck was in fine form to take the premier class at Middlesbrough and District MC’s charity two-day trial held at Woodhead Farm in Fryupdale.

A total of 120 riders competed over the weekend event, raising £720 for the Great North Air Ambulance. Traditionally, all riders get a good challenge at this event and, following heavy rain, this year was no exception.

NO doubt about the popularity of Ripon MC’s Acklams Beta summer championship series, even after 14 years of sponsorship by the Harrogate motorcycle and van distributor.

Long-standing Ripon secretary Judith Blythe and Heather Langstaff processed 102 entry forms last Saturday afternoon at Prospect Farm, deep in scenic and splendid Haverah Park, west of Harrogate.

The logistics were interesting as 65 adults, plus 22 youths, rode the four-lap, 10-section woodland course, while 15 small wheelers competed on a short four laps of four mild but tricky sections master-minded by Adam Blacker and his boys.

The Acklams Beta series was yet another resounding success.

The Derek Lickers Memorial Trial takes place at Kingston Farm on October 9, after which Judith and Keith Blythe will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in style.

EMMA Bristow retained her world championship title last Friday by winning all five trials in the series.

Becky Cook would have been runner-up to the Louth Sherco rider but for the farcical disqualification in Italy the previous week with an alleged underweight machine.

Katy Sunter missed scoring in Italy and France, but was placed 10th in the final standings, while Skeeby’s Chloe Richardson scored points in Italy and France as well as the opening British event and was placed 18th in the final standings.
