COLIN TURKINGTON and team-mate Jason Plato’s own battle for the lead cost them as Rob Collard claimed the second British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Croft.

Collard, driving the BMW 125i M-Sport, sealed the win for JCT600 with GardyX having taken advantage of a clash in front of the Tower stretch in North Yorkshire.

With Turkington being chased down by Plato, who had already earned and then lost the lead from his Silverline Subaru BMR Racing team-mate, Dollard spotted a gap and exploited it.

And the 47-year-old never looked in any danger of losing grip on first spot in the 14th round of the BTCC, with Plato successfully claiming second spot in consecutive races at Croft. Turkington, who won the first of the afternoon, was third in the Levorg GT.

It was Collard’s 50th podium finish – his first was at Donington Park in 2005 - and his second win of the year, while his JCT600 with GardyX’s team-mates also impressed. Jak Goff was fourth and Sam Tordoff, standings leader, managed to claim an eighth spot despite needing an engine change.

But Tordoff, looking for a lift after missing out in the first two races, will start the final race on pole position after being drawn out.
