SALTBURN road racer Davey Todd revelled in the wet conditions to take his inaugural victory in the Pirelli Superstock 600 Championship race at Oulton Park, in Cheshire, last weekend.

Aboard the Morello Racing 600cc Kawasaki, Todd topped last Saturday’s wet practice session before qualifying in fourth place in the drier conditions on Sunday to start Monday’s televised race from the second row of the grid.

A superb start saw him take control of proceedings on the opening lap and he simply ran away with the race, which was shortened to nine laps. The victory, coupled with his fourth place at Silverstone in the opening round, sees him leading the championship going into round three at Brands Hatch later this month.

There was also podium success for Bedale’s Stuart Ramsey, who partnered Lancastrian John Holden to third place in the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship race aboard their Silicone Engineering/Barnes Racing LCR Suzuki.

In the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship race, Hutton Rudby rider Neil Bainbridge qualified the KLM/Hare Bulk Haulage Kawasaki in 29th before claiming a battling 24th at the flag.

In the same race, Burnopfield’s Chrissy Rouse led early on before dropping back on the CECS/Mission Racing BMW when the wet tyres he opted for lost grip as the track dried. He finished 13th, with South Shields rider Josh Corner claiming 21st on the NEI Kawasaki. Prudhoe’s Barry Teasdale crashed out on the GreenChem BHR BMW on lap five.

Wetherby’s Dan Linfoot crashed twice in the MCE British Superbike Championship races. The Honda Racing rider led the opening race in front of more than 30,000 fans before high-siding out of the action at the Hizzy’s Chicane, then in race two, an incorrect tyre choice saw him slide off when again well placed.

ROUNDS three and four of the MSA British Rallycross Championship, in association with Odyssey Battery, were run at Pembrey, in South Wales, last weekend, where history was made by running the circuit in a different direction on each of the two days.

There was plenty of success for the region’s competitors who made the long trip to the track near Llanelli, including victories for a number of drivers to keep their championship hopes alive.

Leading the way in the Supercar class was Leeming Bar’s Kevin Procter, who took victory in Sunday’s soaking wet reverse direction race to add to his victory in the opening round at Croft. The Procter’s Luxury Coaches-backed Ford Fiesta saw off all challengers, including brother-in-law Dave Bellerby, from Little Langton, who claimed third in his Sayers Road Tankers-sponsored Ford Fiesta.

But both drivers retired during Monday’s action and didn’t add to their scores, while Barnard Castle’s Mark Watson continued his season of turmoil with more problems in his Jersey Farm Hotel-backed Citroen Xsara.

In the MSA Supernational class, Northallerton drivers Guy Corner and Paige Bellerby both claimed a victory on each day. Peugeot 206 driver Corner made up for being denied what could have been an event win in round two at Lydden over Easter, while Bellerby spun out of the semi-finals in round three on Sunday, but struck back to win Monday’s race in her Fuchs Titan Race-backed Lotus Exige.

Richmond’s Tom Constantine continued his great start to the season in the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship and followed up a fourth-place finish on Sunday with a second in Monday’s race in the CBS-backed Suzuki Swift. It proved to be a testing weekend for Romanby teenager Drew Bellerby, who added vital points to her Suzuki Swift Championship campaign with a pair of top 10 finishes. But, had it not been for a couple of problems in the Sayers/Fuchs-sponsored car, she would have finished higher up.

Ferryhill’s David Bell took a pair of podium finishes in the BMW Mini class, while Stockton's Hawkes Fire Team were also prominent. Marty Hawkes finished with a best result of second in the Minis, with daughter Jennie taking a best result of fifth over the two days in the same class. Andrew Hawkes scored a best result of seventh in the Suzuki Swift Series, while in the Retro class, Durham driver Lance Foster got the better of Stokesley’s Stewart Bowes in the Mini Clubman battle.

THE Pirelli Carlisle Rally took place in Kielder Forest last weekend and Ripon driver Matthew Robinson and co-driver Sam Collis took a class win in the Historic class en route to third overall in their Fiat 131S.

Class awards also went the way of Easingwold pair Warren Philliskirk and Nigel Hutchinson (Ford RS1600), who took 10th overall, and Potto driver Keith Davison, who claimed 37th overall in the Hillman Avenger he was sharing with Ripon’s Henry Richardson.

Pickhill’s Mick Johnson guided Tom Hewick to 18th overall and sixth in class in their Ford Escort, while Northallerton driver Charlie Taylor and Kirkbymoorside co-driver Alan Ward battled to 22nd overall and eighth in class in their Ford Escort. Ripon pair Andrew Robinson and Kevin Wilson took 31st overall and ninth in class, but Thirsk’s Mat Smith and Barnard Castle co-driver Giles Dykes retired their Proton with mechanical problems.

Stanley’s Jack Morton guided Tom Preston to 13th in the British Championship event, but there was last stage heartbreak for Northallerton’s Ian Windress, who retired the Proton he was sharing with Ollie Mellors. Teesside’s Peter Stephenson also went out on the last stage in his Ford Focus WRC and Guisborough co-driver Mike Scrimgour also retired in the clubman’s event in the Ford Escort he was sharing with David Wallbank.
