SPECTATORS attending the annual Dave Mawer Charity Trial at Kirkby Malzeard last Saturday could be forgiven if they thought they had arrived at a British Championship trial.

The amazing starting list was a stunner. It included Graham Jarvis, who cruised round on a full-blown Husqvarna enduro racer and rode some of the 12 sections clean, and talented Truro teenager Toby Martyn on a new Beta UK machine.

The star-studded line-up also featured Brad and Dec Bullock from Chester, MRS ace Luke Walker from Ashby de la Zouch, Alicia Robinson from Didcot, Shropshire's Tom Minta and John Mack from the Scottish Highlands, plus Richard Sadler, Sam Yeadon and Philip Alderson.

It was impossible to spot a winner and when Jack Peace emerged as victor, the shock was almost audible.

The Kirkbymoorside teenager, still in the youth ranks, defeated Sadler, Minta and Dec Bullock, leaving his older brother Dan to manage sixth place behind MRS Sherco teamster Walker and Martyn. The latter earned fifth place after a three-way tie-break. A field of 26 competed in the hard course class.

York's Tom Hick headed Ripon's Glen Scholey and Philip Alderson in the 53-strong clubman class, followed by Rob Bratley and Karl Doddridge.

Chris Laws was at home on the 12 muddy and slippery sections and rode the entire course faultlessly to win the class from Andy Brooksbank and Burnley's Ben Butterworth.

A total of 49 riders took the easy option, which did turn very tricky as the rain arrived later in the day.

JACK Peace claimed his second major victory on Sunday at Bradfield, where he won the final trial in the Yorkshire Centre ACU Championship series from Dan Thorpe and Chris Pearson.

Andrew Jackson topped Class A from Peter Field and Paul Turner. Mark Chippendale won Clubman B from Dave Knaggs and Howard Gulley.

AS Eileen Race heads into her final year as secretary of the Scarborough Motor Club, one of her final tasks is to set out the 2016 trials calendar.

The club will stage 23 trials, including a British Trials Championship event at Low North Park. The national Cliff Collinson is on the list, as are the very popular pre-65 and youth two-day trials in July and August.

In terms of numbers, the North-East Centre clubs are rampant and 12 member clubs will stage a staggering 62 trials. The Tynemouth club will stage a British solo championship trial on September 18 and the centre will also organise a ladies' and girls' British Championship weekend at Long Framlington on August 6 and 7. World and British champion Emma Bristow will ride her MRS Sherco in Northumberland.

In addition to the prestige events, the long-established Travers Trial will attract national riders to Stanhope on September 25.

THE Northallerton and District Motor Club trial scheduled for Sunday at Low Cow Helm Farm, Chop Gate, was cancelled by the organisers due to waterlogged parking facilities.

THE Wetherby Motor Club has cancelled the annual Bottle Trial scheduled for Sunday at Cockhill Mines, Greenhow. The landowner told Wetherby secretary Margaret Myers that the land was too waterlogged for the trial to take place and grazing areas could be damaged.
