THIS weekend sees Croft Circuit host the finale to the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and possibly announce a famous name winner of the Protyre Formula Renault Championship.

The 2.1-mile circuit in North Yorkshire is a regular fixture on the British Touring Car Championship calendar, with the course record being held by current F1 driver Sergio Perez, showing it is no stranger to high-profile events.

Total Control Racing’s Mike Robinson is the Championship leader in the Clio Cup, and it will take a great effort from his rivals to take the victory from his grasp. Robinson has a 52-point lead over nearest rival David Dickenson of Team Pyro with only a maximum of 68 points available.

As well as the glory of being on top of the podium as Championship winner, the victor gets the chance to test a new fourth-generation Clio Renaultsport Cup car, which would be a well-earned 32nd birthday present for Robinson, who celebrates his birthday the day after the event.

In the Protyre Formula Renault Championship, Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of two-time Formula 1 world champion and IndyCar legend Emerson Fittipaldi, is poised to win as he holds an almost unassailable 70-point lead with four races remaining.

MGR team-mate Matteo Ferrer and Fortec Motorsport’s Alex Gill are his closest rivals, the only two drivers to keep him off top spot of the podium this year, and most likely to spoil the victory party this weekend.

Mike Cantelo, circuit manager at Croft, said: "We are delighted that Croft will be the stage for pivotal title battles in two of the most fiercely-contested junior race series in the country."

There will also be other events this weekend including Mini Miglias, Mini Se7ens, Kumho BMWs, Northern Sportscars & Saloons and Junior Saloons. For further information visit: http://www.croftcircuit.co.uk/
