AYCLIFFE TRIATHLON Club’s first race report of the 2017 season.

On a very cold (-1) but clear March morning of the 26th, in his first event in ATC colours, Ian Readman, the only club entrant, finished the Durham Duathlon (run/cyle/run) in a time of 1:35:59, 8th in his age category, 25th male and a very credible 26th overall.

The next event, the Stockton Duathlon, held on the 23rd April, Ian Readman never to let his training shoes time to relax, entered the sprint event, finishing in blistering time of 1:04:36, 7th in his age category and 68th overall. Also that day, Andy Sedgwick competed in the standard distance duathlon, crossing the finish line in 2:04:55, a brilliant 11th in his age category and 44th overall.

A week later, representing his country in the ETU European Duathlon Championships held over the weekend of 29th/30th of April in Soria, north central Spain, Graham Atkins finished in a terrific time of 2:46:21, 19th in his age category and 206th overall. A solid performance considering the strong winds and driving rain.

And to bring this report up to date, we had five entrants in the first triathlon of the season, the Ashington Sprint Triathlon (swim/cycle/run), held on May 1th. It was a windy bank holiday Monday but it didn’t put our quintet of triathletes off in the least. Stuart Rimmer was a first member to finish, in a time of 1:14:56, 55th male and 61st overall. Alan Kellet was next to finish, crossing the line in a time of 1:25:16, 102nd male and 124th overall. Following Alan was our first female of the day Melanie Rowland in a time of 1:25:41, an excellent 3rd in her age category, 29th female and 137th overall. Hot on her pedals, the ‘improving all time’ Tracey Warrior finished in 1:26:15, 10th in her age category, 137th overall. Anne Kellet was the fifth team member to complete the race, gaining confidence every time she ‘suits up’, in a time of 1:49:57, 77th female and 224th overall.
