WE ENJOYED pleasant conditions at Witton Castle Lakes this week even with the prevalence of that chilly breeze. We welcomed 72 visiting anglers who enjoyed a good weeks sport and returned a rod average of 3.2.
No one reached the 15 fish limit this week, although coming close were A.Grabham and B.Patterson who both caught 12 fish each. J.Campbell caught 11, M.Appleby had 9 fish while T.Ross, M.Turner and R.Vickers all caught 8 fish each. The best of the fish was a nice 4.5lb rainbow caught by B.Pounder.
Anglers have been sticking to small naturals this week due to the abundance of hatches across all lakes. Amongst the most successful have been hares ears, CDC’s and diawl bach.
The lakes had a visit from the local TV programme ‘Made in Tyne & Wear’ who came and interviewed two of our Under 17 Club members during Tuesday evenings Junior Troutmasters fish off. Luckily the promised rain stayed away and the youngsters enjoyed a good session with fish rising everywhere and as a bonus they will be seeing themselves on TV.
