THE WIND has made for tricky conditions Witton Castle Lakes this week, although the rise in temperature has seen some hatches across the lakes which has made for some good top of the water action. The fifty plus anglers who did brave the windy conditions were rewarded with a rod average of nearly 5 fish.
The sheets were dominated by a few anglers who persevered in the windy conditions and did better than most. The 15 fish limit was reached by 3 anglers; M.Cothay, B.Lowther and A.Grabham, closely followed by S.Hibbard with 14 fish, D.Grabham with 12 fish and G.Wharton who caught 11 fish.
The best fish landed were a very nice 5.5lb rainbow caught by M.Cothay, which nicely rounded off his very successful day, and a good hard-fighting 5lb rainbow was caught by A.Ward, making up for a relatively quiet session.
A number of flies performed well on the lakes this week, as well as the return to success of bloodworm, CDC’s, black buzzers, damsel nymphs and cats whisker all proved to be a good choice for the visiting angler.
There’s a mixed bag of weather forecast for the week ahead with sunshine, showers and some more variation in wind speeds. With temperatures not climbing to high either the strange prediction of heavy snow over Easter weekend may materialise - although we’re hoping the ‘prediction’ remains just that.
