THE FIRST full weekend of the year was fairly quiet in terms of races, though it did see the Quaker colours head the furthest east in the world than ever before.

IT WAS a great turn out from Aycliffe Running Club at the annual Ravenstonedale 10k on Saturday 26 November. Weather was cold but bright and the ground was frosty and icy in places. The undulating course was in around the picturesque village of Ravenstonedale near Kirkby Stephen.

ON 5 November club runner Mark Wade participated in Hellvellyn 10k trail race, which is part of the Lakeland Trail series. The conditions on the day were cold but sunny; ideal running weather. Mark completed the race in an impressive time of 37:39 and placed 2nd overall.

ALL QUAKERS headed off the roads at the weekend, with several racing in memory of a fellow local runner.

AFTER AN extremely quiet previous week Witton Castle Lakes welcomed 12 dedicated anglers this last week who braved the cold temperatures to fish the lakes. With the going very hard they saw limited success with bag numbers kept into single figures.

AYCLIFFE RUNNERS participated in Morpeth to Newcastle events on Sunday 30 October. There was a choice of full marathon or cycle sportive from Morpeth to Newcastle or the half marathon from Spanish City Whitley Bay to Newcastle.

THE TEMPERATURES certainly dropped off towards the end of the week at Witton Castle Lakes making it feel like Winter isn’t too far off. In the last full month of the 2016 season we welcomed 18 dedicated anglers who fished the lakes and enjoyed more success than of late.
