ANOTHER hugely hot weekend made life difficult for all runners, and the Burton Leonard multi terrain 10k, always a toughie with its continuous undulations and tree roots, seemed even harder than usual, though trees offered shade in places.

Nevertheless, 321 runners completed the course of this friendly village race, with newly rejoined Paul Atkinson first club finisher, 120th in 52.31. Linda Bamforth 274th in 71.30, Ian Codling 310th in 82.11, Liz Stephenson 313th in 85.04 and Marian Codling 319th in 91.59.

Even harder was the Viking Chase Fell Race, race 5 in the Dave Parry Summer Series, over 7.5 miles with 1800 feet of very tough ascent. It was very warm and very taxing, and trees cut down around Clay Bank meant there was no shade at the already hard ascent there. Marc Davies was 44th out of 75 in 93.35 and Alan Simpson 54th in 100.25.

Park Runs have an earlier start than most races, but even at 9am, it was very hot for the 412 runners at the Fountains Abbey event. Olivia Mulligan, in outstanding form just now, was 1st lady finisher, 10th overall, in PB 19.17. Very well done. Nigel Morgan came 202nd in 27.31, Paul Adams 214th in 28.00, Carrie Anne Wise 256th in 29.39 in her first park run, Steve Isaac 301st in 32.02 and Kerry Morgan 394th in 40.17.

At Northallerton, Jody Sygrove finished 6th out of 75 in PB 21,25 and Phillip Craig 47th in 29.41. and at the Dalby Forest event, Rob Burn came 11th out of 167 in 20.51, Andy Butcher 18th in 21.45, Ian Crane 26th in 23.25, Christine Burn 102nd in 29.49 and Gillian Crane 126th in 31.40.

The weekend before on another very hot day, Fiona Bellas again tackled the Allerthorpe Sprint Triathlon, finishing in 1.32 and knocking a full 6 minutes off her previous time for the event, coming 37th out of 61 female entrants.
