THE club hosted a very successful Thirsk 10 at the weekend on a perfect morning for running, thankfully, after the event had had to be postponed at the last minute 3 weeks previously because of a heavy snowfall.

Dominic Shaw of New Marske Harriers was the winner in a very convincing 50.30, almost 4 minutes ahead of the 2nd runner, with the Ladies' event being won by Pauline Powell of Blackburn AC in 62.24. Brett Crossley of Leeds Bradford Triathlon Club won the Wheelchair Race in a superb 38.34.

The ever improving 17 year old Josh Fothergill was the first club finisher 17th, and well within his target tine of 1 hour, in 59.16. New member, Howard Cross came 156th in 72.28, with Jody Sygrove 195th in 74.14, Andy Butcher, knocking 5 minutes off his previous time for the race, 217th in 76.28, Clare Tempest 295th in 1.20.38, David Tervit 354th in 1.24.45, Ian Crane 371st in 1.25.31, Joanne Hunt 579th in 1.41.19, new member, Lynne Lumsdon 629th in 1.48.31 and another new member, Siobhan Woodland in her first 10 mile race, 678th in 2.11.21.

Congratulations to them all, many of whom improved on previous times. A big thankyou, also, the the members, family and friends and Topcliffe Scouts who marshalled and organised the race, without whom it would not have been possible for the race to be held.

Rob Lickley should have been at the Thirsk event, but the change of date caused the race to clash with the Manchester Marathon. He had a good race to finish an impressive 3313th out of almost 10 000 runners in 3.48.24.

The previous day, in very muddy, difficult conditions, the Ben Campbell, held in memory of a fine local runner who died at a young age, Fioan Bellas finished 5th in 31.42 and Christine Burn 7th in 33.02.

Olivia Mulligan was again superb, finishing overall 2nd in 53.08, with Rob Burn 15th in 59.56, Kirsty Naylor 20th in 63.28, Marc Davies 22nd in 64.12, Alan Simpson 27th in 69.06, with Trish Radford and Heather Bell coming in together 31st in 71.52, Faith Coy 32nd in 74.06 and Diane Brown 41st in 91.54.

At the Fountains Abbey Park Run, Ian Crane was first club finisher, 124th in 25.31, Nigel Morgan 184th in 28.01, Paul Adams 221st in 29.07, Linda Bamforth 249th in 30.12, Gillian Crane 265th in 30.54, Jane Cummins 329th in 34.12, Martin Cummins, nursing an injury, 331st in 34.14. Ian and Marian Codling were running with family, and son David finished in an impressive 20.15. Ian, running with grandson Matthew, came 370th in 38.30 and Marian, running with granddaughter Anna, came 393rd in 47.29.

Tracey Lowther was at Northallerton, coming 26th out of 67 in 28.35.

Peter Richardson at Catterick came 55th out of 164 in 25.00 and Ken Evitt at the Darlington South Park event, was 133rd out of 333 in 27.05, getting a PB for the second consecutive week.
