HARTLEPOOL UNITED

THERE was some good news for all of us when Joel Porter was kept on by Pools last week. It would have been criminal to let him go and I'm pleased that the crowd favourite will stay. Last season's goal of the season winner wasn't kept on by Danny Wilson and when Skippy went up for his award on Tuesday night I imagined it would be his big farewell too.

But as for the rest of the socalled "retained list" - where was the big clearout which the manager said he was going to do? I was expecting a lot more of them to leave so we could see some big changes before next season and instead it's going to be the same old faces.

Some of the players on the staying list were a big shock to many, especially Willie Boland.

Losing Godwin Antwi and Robbie Elliott was no suprise and we won't miss either of them, but the others allowed to leave haven't made much impact.

For next season we need a new goalkeeper and I would love to see big Dimi the Greek back but don't think we will manage it. We are OK in midfield, but we might need a right winger as I would love to see James Brown and Porter up front next season.

And as for the manager I don't mind if he stays or goes - he's made mistakes this season and, if he sees sense and picks the right players in the right positions next season we be OK.

Neville Busbridge, Hartlepool
