HARTLEPOOL UNITED
THERE is the nucleus of a good
side and I hope we retain the
services of Humphreys, Clark,
Liddle, Monkhouse, Nelson,
Brown, Sweeney and Collins.
What is needed is some real
quality.
We failed to land Darryl Duffy
and Anthony Elding - these are
players who were hardly multimillion
pound buys and we
failed to attract.
Wilson has hardly succeeded
in the transfer market. The
insistence of tinkering with the
team, playing players out of
position and sticking by
Mackay, Foley and Antwi, who
are reserve or squad players at
best, has caused disquiet.
Danny Wilson must stay only
to prove his worth, I'd give him
till Christmas. The club owners
need to back him. The half
million or so we received two
seasons ago for Adam Boyd has
not been reinvested, signings of
aging journeymen like Richard
Barker and Willie Boland are
not the way forward.
I'll be soon investing around
£400 in a season ticket and I
hope we see a side worthy of
this next season. Otherwise the
thousand or so that pay their
£20 on the gate who have voted
with their feet will do so again
and the majority who remain
will not stand for mediocrity.
