I CAN'T be the only Pools supporter who found Danny Wilson's comments in last Monday's Echo extraordinary (Apr 21).
It appears that he lays the blame for our poor season at the feet of those players at the club before he arrived. This would include, I presume, Sweeney, Nelson, Clark, Humphreys, Brown, Porter and Liddle.
The major problems this season have largely stemmed from Wilson's own signings. Out of the dozen or so players he has brought to the club only Barker, Monkhouse, Collins and Moore (now gone) can be said to have improved the team. The two goalkeepers are dire, Ali Gibb a disaster, Boland less than effective, Mackay average, McCunnie inconsistent and last but not least Robbie Elliott who must be genuinely embarrassed to pick up his wages.
This season has been a disappointment and Wilson is right when he says we have played some lovely football for no reward, especially in away games, but the blame for the overall lack of progress lies squarely with the manager and not with long-standing pros who have pulled their weight week in and week out, unlike some of Wilson's alleged superior signings.
