MIDDLESBROUGH
9:15am Monday 12th May 2008
I WAS pleased to read in Paul Fraser's article that former Middlesbrough player David Mills had renewed his links with the club by becoming part of the scouting team (Echo, Sport, April 30).

THERE was some good news for all of us when Joel Porter was kept on by Pools last week. It would have been criminal to let him go and I'm pleased that the crowd favourite will stay. Last season's goal of the season winner wasn't kept on by Danny Wilson and when Skippy went up for his award on Tuesday night I imagined it would be his big farewell too.

DARLINGTON

CAN Shaun Campbell please explain why he is spending so much time and effort in trying to get a statue built at Darlington Football Club of a footballer than nobody but him cares about (Echo, May 3)?

SUNDERLAND

THERE is the nucleus of a good side and I hope we retain the services of Humphreys, Clark, Liddle, Monkhouse, Nelson, Brown, Sweeney and Collins.

TOO much is expected of managers who work for the top football clubs. If you are a manager of one of the top four clubs then you are automatically expected to win a piece of silverware every year. If you are manager of any other club in the Premier League then it is thought to be an achievement to finish in an UEFA Cup qualifying slot, and unless you are relegated then you keep your job.

I CAN'T be the only Pools supporter who found Danny Wilson's comments in last Monday's Echo extraordinary (Apr 21).

REFEREES
9:56am Monday 28th April 2008
WE ARE accustomed to managers of the top Premier League clubs squaring up to one another, as well as referees.

SUNDERLAND

IN RESPONSE to GW Dowson's letter (SHAS, April 21), Roy Keane has not wasted £50 million on players, he has paid the going rate for British/Irish players. It's not the Irishman's fault that the market is in such an inflated state.
