Jackson return expected against Devils

VIPERS look like being without winger Todd Jackson for another weekend as the New York native continues his rehabilitation from a leg injury.

Jackson, whose presence has been missed alongside regular line mates Colin Shields and Derek Campbell, is expected to sit out the trip to Sheffield on Saturday and Sunday's visit of Nottingham.

Since picking up the injury in Cardiff, Jackson has so far missed three matches, but it is hoped he will return to face the Devils on Welsh ice in a week and a half.

Coach Rob Wilson, who could do with Jackson's presence at a time when his Vipers side are misfiring on the ice, is being realistic about the prospects of a quick return.

He said: "Todd is responding very well to treatment. He is walking without any discomfort but in terms of lacing the skates back on I think this weekend has come too soon.

"Realistically I'm looking at bringing him back the following weekend in Cardiff."

26-year-old Jackson joined the Mobilx Vipers a month into the season as a replacement for Ukranian forward Alexandr Shevchenko. He played at University of Maine with current Vipers top-scorer Colin Shields.

In 22 games with the Metro Radio Arena outfit, Jackson has registered 19 points with 5 goals and 14 assists.

The club are also hosting their Air the Bear event at Sunday's game, with fans asked to bring a teddy bear or soft toy and then throw it onto the ice when the Vipers score their first goal of the game. Last year over 500 toys were collected. Mobilx Vipers players will then deliver the toys to children in hospital.
