THE start of racing at Redcar was delayed last night as jockey Danielle McCreery suffered a fighting fall before the start of the first race, writes Niall Hannity.
The young apprentice was lifted by air ambulance, after being treated by paramedics on the track. She was unseated by 50-1 shot Only A Splash, who dumped her into the turf in front of the stalls as the runners were arriving at the post for the opening race.
McCreery, who has ridden five winners so far this season, was taken to James Cook University Hospital. She was reported to be conscious and stable said chief executive of the racetrack Neil Etherington.
■ Hat-trick scorer Ben Chorley is set to face the biggest test of his career in the John Smith's Cup at York tomorrow week.
The grey gelding has won all his three starts this season culminating in a solid success at Ripon over nine furlongs two weeks ago.
Connections are aiming him at the 49th renewal of the £150,000 Heritage Handicap.
