Aussie star Haradasun determined to make a major impact in Europe
HARADASUN can herald his arrival
in Europe with victory in
the Group One Juddmonte
Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.
It is always hard to assess the
merits of foreign form on British
shores, particularly that of Australian
racing, which could hardly
be more different in terms of
attitude and ground.
However, Aidan O'Brien and
the Coolmore team obviously believe
Haradasun can cut the mustard
in this hemisphere or they
would not have gone to the trouble
of shipping the five-year-old
halfway around the world.
Haradasun's pedigree offers
much encouragement, with the
Fusaichi Pegasus horse a halfbrother
to the globe-trotting
Elvstroem, and he has some good
runs in the book.
He won back-to-back Group
Ones at Rosehill and Randwick
in 2007 before not being beaten
too far by the likes of Apache Cat,
El Segundo and Miss Finland
subsequently.
Haradasun seems to handle
pretty much any conditions and
connections have obviously targeted
this Group One, which is
usually one of the weakest of the
year, as a perfect starting point.
Colony can land the totescoop6
London Gold Cup following a
successful seasonal bow at
Sandown.
A typically lighted-raced sort
from Sir Michael Stoute's yard,
the three-year-old triumphed in a
competitive event at the end of
last month.
That was just his third career
start and he looks one to keep on
the right side of.
Four Miracles can make full
use of his featherweight in the
betinternet.com Stakes at Newmarket,
while Thirsk's Scarborough
Handicap looks a good opportunity
for Orpenindeed.
Storyland broke her maiden at
Redcar this month and can make
it a quick double in the Profile
Fillies' Handicap at Doncaster.
Noticeable might not have hit
the heights on the level but he
can strike over obstacles in the
JT Hughes Handicap Hurdle at
Bangor.
Charmahal looks made for
summer jumping and can open
his account in the Nick Lovett
Another One Bites The Dust
Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter.
Angus Newz must give weight
away to all her rivals in tomorrow's
C.B. Hutchinson Memorial
Challenge Cup but Mick Quinn's
speedball has more than enough
toe to get the job done at Ripon.
This mare possesses a fine
strike-rate, having won nine
times from 41 starts, with connections
celebrating at least two
wins per season since she began
her career as a juvenile.
There should be plenty more
corks to pop this term if her first
two sighters are anything to go
by as Angus Newz has shown up
well behind the likes of Sonny
Red and Bentong.
There is no doubt she is the
class horse in the race and must
be backed as a three-time Listed
winner taking on lesser lights.
Jewelled Dagger rose 40lb in
the handicap last season but
could still have more to offer at
four and it would be dangerous to
assume his progress has levelled
off just yet.
Linda Perratt's charge ran a
blinder on his return to action in
a similar event at this track and
is entitled to have come on for
that. If he is in a similar frame of
mind, the Daggers Drawn gelding
is well worth a second look in
the Ripon, Yorkshire's Garden
Racecourse Handicap.
Loita Hills has plenty of ability
and looks ready to hit the
bullseye once again in the RacingUK.
TV Novices' Handicap
Chase at Market Rasen.
