Osolomio can get back to front
OSOLOMIO (2.30) has been
found an excellent opportunity
to resume his winning ways at
Sedgefield today.
Having collected at the second
time of asking over jumps when
scoring at Chepstow, Osolomio
then had to settle for second spot
on his latest Doncaster outing.
Although the Jennie Candishtrained
gelding was soundly
beaten by the winner that day, it
was a far better contest in terms
of sheer strength-in-depth.
Jennie was still pleased with
the performance, auguring well
for the races such as the
Camerons Brewery Novices'
Hurdle, which represents a
much softer target for Osolomio.
Donald McCain hardly ever
seems to leave the place emptyhanded,
a trend quite likely to be
maintained by Wood Fern (3.30)
in the Novices' Handicap Hurdle.
Having toiled away all season
with no tangible reward, Wood
Fern's latest Warwick third-placing
suggests victory is near.
With the ground riding fairly
quick, McCain's eight-year-old
should be 100 per cent effective.
Tipping horses which have
been pulled up must only be
done with good reason and there
were indeed valid excuses for
Jeringa (4.05) at Ayr.
It was absolutely bottomless
in Scotland on that rain-lashed
occasion, conditions which reduced
most of the runners, including
Jeringa, to a state of
total exhaustion.
John Wade's inmate will not
face anything like such a gruelling
test for the Stanley
Thompson Memorial Chase,
helping him to hopefully bounce
back to top form.
Brian Ellison, successful with
Hue at Redcar yesterday, could
find himself making a swift return
to the winners' enclosure if
John Forbes (5.10) struts his
stuff in the finale.
A course and distance winner,
John Forbes signalled his turn
was again near by finishing a
creditable third in a marginally
hotter event at Newcastle ten
days ago.
Pontefract's Jamaican Flight
Handicap often falls to a horse
fit from a National Hunt campaign,
therefore coming down
on the side of Sweetheart (3.45)
makes perfect sense.
Jamie Poulton's filly has won
two of her last three spins over
the sticks, each time asserting
by making her superior reserves
of stamina count.
Another individual happy to
switch codes as required is Sunday's
winning nap, Riguez
Dancer, who bolted up in a
Novices' Hurdle at Towcester.
Patrick Haslam's unexposed
four-year-old prevailed pulling
the proverbial cart at the
Northamptonshire venue, therefore
probably didn't expend too
much energy.
We're not going to benefit
from lucrative odds, but Riguez
Dancer, does look a gimme with
trip and track to suit.
