Collier will help Flake to make most of swift return

SUE SMITHS decision to run Flake (4.00) so soon after his weekend defeat looks an open invitation for investors to help themselves at Market Rasen.

The selection is a tough little critter C witness the way he pulled his riders arms out early doors at Wetherby on Saturday, then stayed on for pressure up the home straight.

Most horses would have shot their bolt after such headstrong antics, but not Flake, whose willingness to please is point number one in punters favour.

Point two revolves around the presence of Tjade Collier in the saddle, a brilliant young jockey with a huge future provided he keeps his head down.

Under the stewardship of team Smith, which includes the indomitable Harvey, Colliers talent has been carefully nurtured while others might have got too big for their boots.

The same stable is represented by Hold The Bid (4.35), aiming to complete a quickfire hat-trick in the Handsome Cabs Handicap Chase.

Hold The Bid goes exceptionally well for Keith kid gloves Mercer, who always sits as quiet as a church mouse on the eightyear- old.

Mercer played his hand particularly late when the pair collected at the course ten days ago, waiting until the final fence before kicking in the turbo.

Such exaggerated tactics dont always work, however unless you hang on to Hold The Bid, he doesnt seem to find a great deal in the closing stages.

The former Alan Swinbanktrained Neutrino (5.10) recently had his first spin for new handler, David Bridgewater, at Stratford.

As Neutrino had been given a five-month holiday by Bridgewater his new recruit ran as well as could be expected to occupy a perfectly respectable sixth spot.

The gelding will be a shade sharper for that outing, significantly enhancing his prospects in the Legsby Road Handicap Chase.

Chepstows opener, the Mares Only Novices Hurdle, appears to be a straight match between Dansimar (2.10) and Pentasilea.

Preference is marginally for Dansimar, a ready winner on her Wincanton debut, where she saw off a fair field in fluent fashion.

Being by the great Daylami, out of a Bering mare, her value will have rocketed as a result of the victory, and itll be no surprise if shes retired to stud in the near future.

The all-weather action makes little appeal with the possible exception of Mark Johnstons Kempton newcomer, Music Party (7.50).

The Johnston horses never run unless they are fit enough to do themselves justice, so in a weak line-up the daughter of Dance Trick could easily prevail.

ö European Dream will run in Saturdays William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster after a more unusual preparation than most.

A productive season on the level last year saw him rise nearly 30lb in the handicap before he had his attentions switched to hurdles.

Some consistent efforts followed with placings behind Ring The Boss, Five Dream and Mon Michel before a couple of runs at Nad Al Sheba recently.

Hes wintered very well in Dubia, said Mick Gorbin, from the Richard Guest yard.

Last years runner-up Rio Riva is in line for another crack at the race, according to trainer Julie Camacho.

It suits Rio Riva to go to the race first time up.

He is definitely better fresh and he went for the race first time out last year too.
