Trigger looks ready to confirm class after return to full fitness
ALAN KING' S lofty aspirations
for Trigger The Light (2.40) have
been somewhat dented by a
minor mid-season training
setback.
There's always much
gnashing of teeth when a
potential money-spinner like
Trigger Of Light is sidelined,
rather than strutting his stuff
out on track.
After a 112-day break the
seven-year-old is now back to
full fitness and should play a
leading role in the outcome of
Warwick's Weatherbys Bank
Novices' Chase.
Trigger The Light is of
significant local interest on
account of being sired by
Double Trigger, one of the most
famous horses ever to be
trained in these parts.
So highly does King rate
Trigger The Light, he has gone
on record as saying he hopes
he'll put Double Trigger "on the
map" as a leading producer of
staying chasers.
Tank Top's (2.10) recent
efforts leave the strong
impression that his turn to
enter the winners' circle is
about to materialize.
The Tom George-trained
raider has been knocking on the
door, latterly when runner-up at
Chepstow, a race in which he
finished miles clear of the third.
A strict reproduction of that
form would make him hard to
beat in the opening Maiden
Hurdle, a contest not overblessed
with obvious talent.
Just lately it's been X-rated
stuff for supporters of Exeterbound
Cathedral Rock, who
despite attracting massive
market support has failed to get
round on his last two starts.
In the flesh Cathedral Rock
(3.20) appears every inch an oldfashioned
type of chaser, so
with luck it's merely one of
those unfortunate jumping
blips.
Incredibly the strapping
gelding has emerged unscathed,
but now we must see if his
bottle remains intact for the
near 2-mile Novices' Chase.
Normally I'd be inclined to
give such error-prone
individuals a wide berth,
however with the master
horseman, Timmy Murphy, up
top, Cathedral Rock is worth
another chance.
The day's two most valuable
races take place at Kempton,
where Mark Johnston's Grand
Fleet (4.30) is of major interest
in the £10,500 Punters Club
Handicap.
Grand Fleet, who has yet to
finish out of the frame in four
outings, did little wrong in
defeat when floored by Fathsta
at Wolverhampton in January.
Not only was Fathsta
completing a hat-trick on that
occasion, he's also since
occupied second-spot in another
warm all-weather affair.
The preceding Easter
Saturday Handicap boasts
identical prize-money, cash
which could be destined to end
up with the owners of
Distinctly Game (4.00).
Kevin Ryan's dual course and
distance scorer reserves his best
for trips to the south London
venue, a vital factor in an
extremely competitive sprint
for this time of year.
