Denman claims Gold Cup crown
DENMAN saw off stable-mate Kauto Star to win a memorable Cheltenham Gold Cup this afternoon.
Having led from an early stage, Sam Thomas' mount claimed a decisive advantage four fences from home and, while Kauto Star rallied in the run-in, Denman held on to record a convincing win.
With Neptune Collonges finishing third, trainer Paul Nicholls recorded a 1-2-3 in steeple-chasing's Blue Riband race.
Denman was returned the 9-4 second favourite, while Kauto Star started at odds of 10-11. Neptune Collonges was third at 25-1.
