AIDAN O’BRIEN has any amount of fillies to choose from for the Oaks and Twirl can add her name to the list with victory in the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York.

This filly is a full sister to last year’s Irish 1000 Guineas winner Misty For Me who also proved useful up to a mile and a half.

Twirl won one of her two maiden starts last term but looked in need of her seasonal bow when second in a Curragh Group Three in March.

She is expected to come on for that run and remains pretty unexposed as she switches up to 10 furlongs for the first time.

Mick Easterby’s Hoof It bids for victory at the Dante Festival for the third successive year in the Duke of York totepool Stakes.

The five-year-old was a winner in handicap company at the 2011 Dante meeting and also a year earlier, but he tackles Group Two level this year and must have an excellent chance of victory.

The strapping gelding made a rapid ascent through the ranks last term, with the only minor blip being a disappointing effort in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Hoof It bounced back to form in style though, with a Sky Bet Dash victory on the Knavesmire supplemented by a record weight-carrying performance in the Stewards’ Cup.

That effort was enough for Easterby to raise his sights to Group One level in the Nunthorpe but dropping back to five furlongs, the race just did not pan out in his favour and Hoof It had to settle for a close-up sixth.

Hoof It was again out of luck on his final start of 2011 when third in the Haydock Sprint Cup after being forced left in a driving finish.

He was actually in front of the winner, Dream Ahead, soon after the line so can probably be considered a Group One winner in all but name.

Any drying of the ground on the Knavesmire would enhance his chances, but Hoof It still rates a sound contender in any case.
