Inside racing

WITH Newcastle’s Eider Chase meeting abandoned, the attention turned to Kempton over the jumps and Lingfield on the all-weather where there were two Listed races, writes NIALL HANNITY.

One of the Listed events went the way of the David Barron trained Jaconet, who made all the running under Philip Makin.

Sent off at 11-10 favourite, the fiveyear- old mare came home with ease to land the first prize of just over £22,000 and looks to have a Group race well within her compass.

It is meant to be a quiet time for Flat jockeys but not so Makin, who was riding in Dubai on Thursday. He is still not planning to take it easy as he is heading back to Newcastle airport tomorrow to go back to Dubai, where he rides again on Friday.

Makin will be aboard Barney McGrew for trainer Michael Dods at the new Meydan track in Dubai.

The action tomorrow is at Catterick, where there is a seven race card. Jockey Graham Lee has a few interesting rides, none more so than Middleton Dene in the beginners’ chase at 4pm.

The eight-year-old was second last time out at Sedgefield, a race in which Lee rode the winner Riguez Dancer.

Trained by Rose Dobbin, Middleton Dene was a very useful hurdler and should take this before going on to bigger and better things.
